Our mission is simple—join us for impact.

Nebraska CASA Association is a network of 22 local programs in Nebraska serving 55 counties. We recruit, screen, train and support Court Appointed Special Advocates. Those advocates are volunteers - just like you - who are appointed by a judge to speak for the well-being of abused and neglected children.

What Does a CASA Volunteer Do?

Statewide Impact

  • Nebraska CASA Association serves 22 programs across 55 counties, supporting over 940 trained volunteers who serve nearly 2000 children and youth. More than 1500 abused and neglected children in Nebraska are currently waiting for a CASA volunteer.

The Role of CASA Volunteers

  • CASA volunteers advocate for children's best interests in court proceedings related to abuse or neglect, spanning from birth to emancipation.
  • Rigorously screened and extensively trained, volunteers undergo 30 hours of initial training and 12 hours of annual continued education.
  • Volunteers receive ongoing support to advocate for children's needs effectively.

Advocacy in Action

  • Appointed by a judge, CASA volunteers provide comprehensive and objective information to inform court decisions and ensure positive outcomes for children.
  • They form lasting relationships with children, advocating within the court, child welfare, and school systems.
  • Monthly visits and engagement with the child allow volunteers to understand their specific needs and collaborate with professionals to support their healing and growth.

Impact and Long-Term Relationships

  • While CASA volunteers serve many children in foster care, some remain with their families, with the majority returning home eventually.
  • CASA volunteers often maintain relationships with young adults as they transition out of foster care and into adulthood.
