Kathryn Carlson, Northeast Nebraska CASA Volunteer Advocate and Board Member
What motivated me to volunteer with CASA, was that you meet the child(ren) and learn about them, help them to know that they have done nothing wrong, and that someone will be with them to guide them always.
The biggest personal benefit that I have received as a CASA, is that I am able to incorporate my education in Criminal Justice and Psychology to not only help the children but to understand each case so much more. I have been able to communicate with the attorneys on cases and also express to parents I am working with how important it is to follow the case plans that are set forth.
I have also been able to attend conferences on state and national level, as well as continued educational training to help me be a better CASA. The most memorable accomplishment in my experience so far, was seeing a little boy enjoy and be able to perform at a school program for the first time.
